Polymarket Review: Interesting Signal, Not a Crystal Ball

Polymarket is a prediction market where people trade based on what they think will happen in the real world.

I find it interesting because it gives you a different kind of signal.

Instead of asking ten commentators what they think will happen, you can look at a market where participants have money behind their predictions.

That still does not make the market right.

Crowds can be wrong. Traders can overreact. New information can change probabilities quickly. Legal availability and regulatory treatment can also differ depending on where you are.

Pros

Interesting real time sentiment. Encourages probability based thinking. Useful as another source of information.

Cons

Markets can be wrong. It should never be treated as a guarantee or the only basis for a major decision.

My take

Worth watching if you understand what it is. Dangerous if you start treating a probability like a promise.
