How we test and score software
Stack Curated exists because most software directories rank whoever pays the most. Every product here is scored the same way, with the same formula, whether it pays us anything or nothing at all.
1. The four pillar framework
Effectiveness
30% weightCore reliability, feature execution, error resilience and edge case handling.
Efficiency
25% weightSystem latency, UI speed, API completeness, webhooks and resource consumption.
Usability
25% weightTime to first value, navigation ergonomics and documentation quality.
Time-Saved ROI
20% weightWorkflow acceleration, automation depth and manual hours eliminated each week.
A score of 90 or above means the tool executes its core promise without drama under real load. Anything below 75 has a bottleneck we think you should know about before you buy.
2. Transformative meta synthesis
Alongside hands on testing we aggregate public star ratings and read what verified users are saying in developer forums and communities. We never republish their words. We summarize the recurring patterns in our own writing and use them to calibrate scores against long term, real world stability rather than launch week enthusiasm.
3. Our charter: zero pay to play
- No vendor can pay to adjust a score, buy a top rank, or remove criticism.
- Free and open source software is tested on identical algorithmic footing. If a free tool wins, it takes the top spot and we earn nothing from it.
- Every drawback we find stays in the review, including on products that pay us a referral fee.
