WordPress Review: Old, Messy, Flexible, and Still Very Much Alive

Every few years somebody announces that WordPress is finished.

WordPress apparently never gets the memo.

It remains one of the most flexible ways to build and manage websites. The ecosystem is enormous. Whatever you want a site to do, there is probably an extension for it.

That is also the problem.

There is probably an extension for it.

A well maintained WordPress site can be excellent. A site with dozens of questionable plugins installed by six different people can become a maintenance and security nightmare.

Pros

Flexible. Huge ecosystem. Strong content management. Good control over the site.

Cons

Plugin overload, security neglect, and poor maintenance can create real problems.

My take

WordPress itself is usually not the problem. What people pile on top of it often is.
